Land for the Cemetery was ‘set aside’ upon the sub division of 1868. Whilst burials in those early years followed a general layout of the various religious denominations, it was not until 1903 that a detailed survey was performed setting out individual plots.

By the time the detailed survey was performed, some of our pioneers had been placed in a not quite symmetric position. The original set out comprised six religious denominations: the 6 groups were; Roman Catholic; Church of England, Presbyterian, Methodists, Baptists; Congregationists and ‘not appropriated’

Today the Cemetery is no longer divided into religious sections.
